Touches: Small Thoughts on a Very Big God

Num. 13:26 And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh. They brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

Num. 13:27 And they told him, “We came to the land to which you sent us. It flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

Num. 13:28 However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. And besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.

Num. 13:29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the Negeb. The Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the hill country. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.”

Num. 13:30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Num. 13:31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”

Deut. 1:27…..“Because the LORD hates us, He has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

Why is it that we do not seize upon every promise of God with great relish? Why is it that we do not dream day and night of that City where there is no need for the sun? Why is it that we do not joyfully battle our flesh, to gain all of what the Lord has purchased for us on Calvary? Why is there so little fruit of the nature and character of the Messiah in the Church? So little of the beauty of holiness?

It comes down to unbelief.

A high view of man (making too much of him, and ourselves), and a low view of God (making too little of Him) will always lead us to the wrong conclusion. Thus, Israel concluded that God hated them and saved them from bondage to destroy them!

The initial report about the land expressed faith as it harkened back to the initial promise of God (Exodus 3:8), “we came to the land…..it flows with milk and honey……”

But then, there is a “however” in their report. “However, the people…are strong,”…etc. The Hebrew word for “however” is “Ephes”, zero in English, meaning, ‘there is no room for any other conclusion’ but that we cannot do it, we are not able. (verse 13:31)

No room for any other conclusion? Really? See what Moses said to Israel on that occasion, Deut. 1:29-31

Here is what God says to us now:

Rom. 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Rom. 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Rom. 8:33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

Rom. 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Rom. 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Rom. 8:36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

Rom. 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Do you long for the exchanged life? (Galatians 2:20)

Is there a “however” in your life?

Blessings in Yeshua,

Ofer
