Programme 133 – German Christian (part 2 of 2)

Last week we heard from a Swiss German Christian who has lived in Israel for many years. He, along with others, came to work amongst the Muslim people who live in Jerusalem and now over 400 of these people are coming to the meetings they regularly hold where they hear that God loves them and He is their father.

However, is it possible to bring Christians from a Muslim Palestinian background together with Jewish believers in Jerusalem?

Programme 131 – Nihad Salman

This is the programme that connects you with believers in Jesus living in the Holy Land – both Jewish and Palestinian Arab people – bringing you their stories. Today we visit an evangelical pastor in Bethlehem – his name is Nihad Salman. In a town where the majority of the people are Muslim, being an evangelical Christian puts you in the minority. So, I began by asking Nihad to explain to us what it’s like being a pastor in Bethlehem today.

Programme 129 – Evan Thomas (part 2 of 2)

The Olive Tree – the programme that brings you news from the believers, both Jews and Arabs, living in Israel and the wider Middle East today. My guest today is Evan Thomas – he is a pastor in Netanya, a town situated just north of Tel Aviv on the shores of the Mediterranean in Israel. Autumn time marks the start of the cycle of Biblical Feasts. In Israel the significance of these feasts is perhaps better understood than in the rest of the world. So, I asked Evan to explain their significance and relevance for today.

I asked him for his analysis of what is going on in Israel and in the Israeli mindset at this time.

Programme 127 – David Davis (part 2 of 2)

The Olive Tree brings you up to date news and interviews from Israel to find out what God is doing there and in the wider Middle East at this time. With Iran so much in the news regarding its nuclear capabilities and threat to Israel, you will be interested to hear some good news from that country. My guest today is David Davis, a pastor who lives in the north of Israel. He recently addressed a conference in Jerusalem, just before Yom Kippour, and it was there he heard from an Iranian pastor about the numbers of Iranians who are currently becoming Christians. Here’s what he had to say.

Programme 126 – David Davis (part 1 of 2)

The Olive Tree – where the aim is to find out what God is doing in the Middle East despite the ongoing turmoil and threat of war. It is no secret that the Iranian President Ahmidinijab wants to wipe Israel off the face of the map. But in Jeremiah’s prophecy, there is quite a lot about what God intends for Iran. Recently I spoke to David Davis, a pastor in the north of Israel. He had just returned from a large conference in Jerusalem where many people from around the world had gathered, including some Iranians. David told me what happened.

Programme 123 – Uzzi (part 1 of 2)

My guest today is Uzzi. He is a quietly spoken man in his 60’s. I first met him in Tel Aviv where he was helping a Messianic congregation with their book publishing. Over the next two programmes Uzzi tells his story, a story of how his family escaped from Germany and the Holocaust; of how Uzzi was terribly injured whilst serving in the Israeli army during one of the wars that Israel fought after her independence in 1948; and how his life was miraculously restored some years later.

Programme 122 – Avner

Today my guest is a young Israeli called Avner. We met in Tel Aviv where he helps a Messianic congregation called MAOZ. Avner was born in the south of Israel, in the desert, where his parents were farmers on a moshav – the Hebrew name for a cooperative agricultural community of individual farms. These moshavim sprang up during the early part of the 20th century to provide homes and work for the thousands of Jewish people who were arriving in Israel at that time and were part of the Zionist vision of providing a safe homeland for Jews – especially those escaping from Europe and the Holocaust.

Avner did not have a traditional Jewish religious upbringing. Although the people around him were fervent Zionists, they were also extremely secular in their beliefs. Avner takes up the story – a story that was to lead him down a very dark path.

Programme 121 – Zachi (part 2 of 2)

The Olive Tree brings you the voices of both Jewish and Arab believers in Jesus living in the Holy Land. Last week we heard from Zachi – he described his early life living with his mother, not knowing who his father was. After serving in the Israeli army he went to Dallas and there made a discovery that was to change the course of his life when he realised from the Scriptures that Jesus was indeed the Messiah.

This caused him a dilemma – how was he going to tell his mother? For a Jewish person to believe in the Christian Jesus is taboo, even today.
