Julia Fisher talks to Burghard Schunkert – This week’s edition of The Olive Tree finds us in an area of Bethlehem called Beit Jala and we are going on a tour around a newly opened centre for disabled children and young people called Lifegate. Burghard Schunkert, a Christian from Germany, is the director of the Lifegate. He is a social worker and came to work in Bethlehem 25 years ago where there are many children who are born with physical and mental abnormalities.
Our aim is to build bridges… To build bridges of understanding and support, in a spirit of reconciliation, between believers (both Jewish and Arab) in the Holy Land (Israel and the Palestinian Areas) and Christians worldwide.
